La Trobe University has recorded one of its most successful UniSport Australia Nationals campaigns in history with several podium topping finishes on the Gold Coast.
The 2023 UniSport Nationals, held from 23-29 September, saw Team La Trobe record a medal tally of 12 gold medals, six silver and nine bronze.
UniSport Nationals is an opportunity for students from universities across Australia to compete head-to-head in the only national standard university sporting competition.
La Trobe sent a squad of 119 student athletes (including 12 members of the La Trobe Elite Athlete Program) to the Gold Coast this year and let’s just say, the team didn’t let us down!
Headlining the impressive results was the performance of our Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, who each claimed gold in their respective Division 1 competitions. La Trobe’s Women’s Beach Volleyball team also secured a gold medal!

- Judo: Jaiden Brandy (Gold), Alex Hudson (Bronze)
- Taekwondo: Niyousha Shabani (Gold and Silver), Po Ching Pang (Gold, Silver and Bronze), Iman Zayat (Gold and Bronze), Kayla Smit (Gold and Bronze), Alara Yigitoglu (Silver), Awab Elbashir (Gold), Ryan Effrianto (Gold and Silver), Benjamin Green (Silver), Cecilia Jones (Silver and Bronze), Leon Kojima (Bronze and Silver), Daaniyaal Smail (Gold), Tsz Ching Christy Ip (Gold and Silver)
- Fencing: Melody Lee (Silver)
- Golf: Cody Cuthbert (Bronze)
