Using a digital drivers licence as proof of ID

Digital driver licences are coming for learner and probationary drivers in Victoria!

You will be able to use this as proof of ID when collecting your student ID card.

This follows the successful statewide release for full licence holders in May 2024. More than 1 million Victorians have already activated a digital driver licence on their smartphone – it’s now learner and probation drivers’ turn.

A digital driver licence is an easy, convenient and secure way to verify your identity, provide your licence status or prove your age.

There are things you can do now to get ready for your digital learner or probationary driver licence by creating a myVicRoads or a Service Victoria account and downloading the app.

Digital driver licences have been overwhelmingly popular with huge numbers of Victorians. If you are one of the few who run into any problems, you can visit the VicRoads and Service Victoria websites to find out more or contact 13 11 71 for support.
