Join us on an entertaining and interactive journey through the history and culture of mathematics!
The GS Watson Lecture – A Mathemagical Mystery Tour: Large Numbers and Great Mathematicians, delves into some of the most famous solved and unsolved problems in mathematics.
Hear about people who have shaped mathematics throughout the centuries and some interesting and important numbers, during this free presentation by Professor Karl Dilcher of Dalhousie University, Canada.
Professor Dilcher received his undergraduate education at a small institute of technology in northern Germany. He then did his graduate studies at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and finished his Ph.D. there in 1983.
He is currently a professor at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, where he first arrived in 1984 as a postdoctoral fellow. His research interests include classical analysis, special functions, and elementary and combinatorial number theory. His favourite course to teach is Cryptography, an important modern application of different mathematical topics.
