We are thrilled to share that La Trobe University has been selected as a Finalist for the prestigious 2023 Green Gown Awards in the Student Engagement category! This remarkable achievement stands as a testament to our ongoing commitment to sustainability and student-driven initiatives.
The Green Gown Awards serve as a platform to honour and define the pinnacle of sustainability best practices within the higher education sector. Our nomination is a recognition of the outstanding efforts put forth by our Sustainability team and our Sustainability Leaders Program, which has left a lasting positive social impact on our campus.
At La Trobe, we believe in embedding sustainability in everything we do. Through our Sustainability Leaders Program, we educate and empower students to combat waste management and champion sustainability practices. The program boasts a series of noteworthy initiatives including:
- Promoting The Reusable Revolution, our reusable crockery program on the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus
- Increasing knowledge and empowering fellow students to reduce waste contamination and promote best practice
- Reducing waste contamination in on-campus residences by up to 40% through education and engagement initiatives
- Improving knowledge through new waste posters for students living on campus
- Collaborating with Cirka (our cleaning and waste partner) to create a waste wall from recycled filing cabinets
- Learning all things sustainability including net zero, biodiversity, waste, reusables, engagement and influencing behaviour change.
As we stand on the cusp of potential recognition in the 2023 Green Gown Awards, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our remarkable Sustainability Leaders who have devoted their time, energy, and passion to making a difference. Together, we are reshaping our campus, fostering a culture of sustainability, and setting an inspiring example for the entire La Trobe community.
