Health cover for students, employees and alumni

La Trobe employees can access special corporate health cover options through our partnership with Medibank. La Trobe students, alumni and employees will also have access to benefits and discounts across Medibank’s insurance range, including pet, life and travel insurance.

International student health cover

As part of student visa requirements, international students must have appropriate levels of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Medibank is our provider of choice for OSHC.

Medibank’s OSHC offering includes a 24/7 student health and support line, unlimited emergency ambulance cover and a telephone interpreter service in over 160 languages.

On-campus health and wellbeing

Each semester, Medibank hosts a range of on-campus services and programs to support both staff and students. While on-campus events are currently on hold due to COVID-19, previous activities have included:

• The Eat, Move, Feel pop-up health hub on the Melbourne Campus during Orientation Week in Semester 1, 2020: At the hub, employees and students had the opportunity to enjoy healthy lunches and nourishing smoothies, complete a self-service health check, sign up for sport and fitness activities and participate in personal consultations to review their health cover needs.
• Free student flu vaccinations: More than 1500 free flu vaccinations were provided to La Trobe students in winter 2020. Supported by Medibank, this initiative was designed to help protect our student community from the seasonal flu as COVID-19 placed additional pressure on health systems.
• Expanded La Trobe’s seasonal flu vaccination program to allow an additional 1,000 employees to receive the influenza vaccination in early 2020.

Support during COVID-19

As a part of COVID-19 restrictions, many of us are spending most of our time in our homes. La Trobe employees and students have access to Medibank’s online platform, Live Better at Home, which provides resources to stay fit and healthy while working or studying from home.

We also teamed up with Medibank to host a webinar series and established a crisis support fund for our international students. These are just a few of the ways we’re supporting our community through COVID-19.
