We pride ourselves on our professional and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge they need to graduate with confidence.
Our students come from diverse places, occupations and sectors, and bring with them different life experiences. They add to the richness of our Department and make a valuable contribution to our learning environments.

At La Trobe University, we have a longstanding commitment to diversity, inclusion and social justice; our students are among the most diverse of all Australian universities, and we are committed to providing a learning environment and workplace where all students and staff feel valued, respected and supported to achieve their full potential.
We care about building a connected community that actively champions diversity and inclusion to help people thrive. We achieve this by supporting our people, valuing diverse thinking as a key driver of innovation, and holding ourselves to account in delivering a culture where equity is a way of life.
La Trobe is committed to promoting equal opportunities and support for all students and staff, with a focus on six key pillars: cultural, disability, gender equality, Indigenous, LGBTIQA+ and life stages.

We want our students to have an excellent experience with us and hope they return to engage with professional development and short courses as they progress through their careers.
Our course offerings are designed to provide students with an outstanding experience and prepare them for contemporary professional practice. Our classes allow students to build knowledge together, under the guidance of our expert academic staff, and through a range of professional and industry activities.
We encourage students to consider themselves partners in learning and help them to maximise their opportunities – both within their courses and more broadly via professional networks.
Our undergraduate students bridge theory and practice by undertaking placements and other practical experiences in a variety of health settings, both in Australia and abroad.
Preparation for practice includes building life and work-related skills including teamwork, inquiry, strategy and global citizenship. This real-world exposure allows students to use their knowledge and skills in professional settings, preparing them to excel in the field of public health upon graduation.
The Department of Public Health is globally connected with many international partners. Staff and students are encouraged to take a world view of health and wellbeing.
Our teaching program include international students who have chosen to study in Australia and domestic students who are studying or undertaking placement abroad.
Our transnational education programs offer in/outbound student mobility activities, including international internships. Since 2000, our China Health program has become a celebrated model of international collaboration and participation in both teaching and research.
The result: Our alumni have global reach and impact, with research and practice outcomes that include implementation of health sector services and contributions to managing emergency health responses.
