Facilities
Our department has access to state of the art equipment and facilities supporting a wide variety of research and teaching from systems ecology to genomics.
Facilities include:
- Genomics platform
This facility provides investigators with the latest in 'next generation sequencing' equipment to facilitate wide-ranging research projects requiring highly detailed global DNA and RNA sequence analysis. - La Trobe University Herbarium (LTB)
Our herbarium holds more than 25,000 vascular plant specimens, mostly from Victoria, as well as a significant collection of algal specimens. - Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary
Established in 1967, the sanctuary was created with the purpose of assisting in the restoration and management of our indigenous flora and fauna. - Controlled environment glasshouses and growth chambers.
- Zoological reserve and animal house.
Specialist equipment includes:
- Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) - Agilent Technologies 7820A gas chromatograph with 5975 Series mass selective detector. Contact A/Prof. Steinbauer.
- Laser Vibrometer (Polytec PDV 100) with signal analysis software for studying vibrational communication in small animals and arthropods. Contact: Dr Peters and A/Prof. Steinbauer.
Box Ironbark resource:
The Box Ironbark catalogue is a unique online resource for our Bendigo campus students studying the Box Ironbark forests in the Greater Bendigo National Park.
