Find answers to commonly asked questions about Living at La Trobe.
When should I apply?
We recommend that you apply for accommodation at your preferred campus as soon as possible. Applications are made online and are all open from the 30th of October 2024.
Is there an application fee?
No, submitting an accommodation application is free of charge.
What kind of contracts are on offer?
We offer a 22-week and 44-week contracts commencing in February and July.
Can I see the accommodation before I apply?
We encourage you to visit our accommodation before applying. It is a great opportunity to view our residential colleges and explore our university campus.
Please contact us to organise a time for a tour.
Note that tours are not possible during university examination periods.
Do I need to be a full-time student to apply?
No, you just have to be enrolled at a tertiary institute in at least a part time capacity.
What if I have not received a first-round university offer to study at La Trobe?
If you hope to receive a study placement in second or third round offers, we can offer anyone who studies at a tertiary institute accommodation. Please contact our team to let us know you are still interested in living at La Trobe and keep us informed if you do receive a study offer for that semester in a subsequent round.
Do I need to be a La Trobe University student?
Priority is given to La Trobe University students. If there are vacancies after first round offers, we are able to consider RMIT Bundoora students and students studying in the CBD (please keep in mind we are a 45-minute tram ride from the city).

What is the rent schedule?
Rent is charged fortnightly. If you would prefer to pay for a whole semester, or a year in advance, please visit the Living at La Trobe office to discuss.
How and when is rent payable?
Each resident will be given access to the residents’ portal when you check-in. You can pay your rent via this portal, via bank transfer, or make payment at reception with a debit or credit card. Please note your rent is payable fortnightly.
What does my rent include?
A fully furnished apartment, all utilities are included, access to unlimited internet and Wi-Fi, use of our common facilities and ability to participate in our Residential Life Program.
Do I need to pay a bond?
Yes, you are required to pay a $1,000 bond deposit when accepting your letter of offer.
How do I receive my bond back?
You will need to complete a bond refund form. Your bond payment will be refunded within 21 business days of your contract end date to the nominated bank account specified on your bond refund form.
Is there a cancellation fee?
No cancellation fee applies if you cancel before the agreement commences.
If I wanted to break my lease, what are the costs associated with this?
If you wish to terminate your lease early, you will need to pay a departure cleaning fee of $130, a cancellation fee equivalent to four (4) weeks rental fees and your bond payment of $1000 will be forfeited.
Can I stay over the holiday period?
If you are on a full academic calendar year contract, you are able to stay in your residence throughout the midyear break. You will continue to pay rent for this period, regardless of whether you remain there or not, as rent is calculated based on a full year contract.
If you are a current resident and would like to remain over the Christmas holiday break (after the academic year has concluded), you can complete a summer residency application form. Our team will communicate further information to students about this process in the lead-up to the summer break.

What do I need to bring with me?
When you arrive, your room will be furnished with a bed, mattress, desk and chair. You will need to provide your own linen.
Essential items to bring with you are bed linen (sheets, pillow, doona, blankets), towels, washing powder, laundry basket, clothes hangers, tea-towels, personal toiletries and clothing. You can customise your room with posters, pictures and decorations.
If you are living in a self-catered residence, please note you will need to supply your own pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils to use in the shared kitchen.
Due to fire safety regulations, kettles, toasters and hot-plates are not permitted in bedrooms: these are only be used in the designated kitchen areas.
Will I have Wi-Fi in my room?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available across all our accommodation residences.
Are meals provided?
All students residing in Glenn College enjoy daily breakfast and dinner buffets served at Glenn Dining Hall. All other Bundoora residents can opt-in for daily meal plans for an additional cost of $160 per week. Please email us to sign up.
All Bendigo residences are self-catered.
Can I live with my partner/family at a La Trobe residence?

Am I allowed to have visitors?
Yes, visiting hours at the residential precinct are from 8:00am to 10:00pm. For overnight guests, submit a request through your portal 48 hours prior to the guests’ arrival. Overnight guests can stay for a maximum of 2 consecutive nights.
If I want to move apartments/rooms after I move in, is that possible?
You can move into a different apartment/room after you move in, subject to the $85 room move fee. You will need to contact us so we can determine if there is any availability for you to move.

Are there car parking facilities available?
All car parking spaces at La Trobe University Bundoora (Melbourne) Campus require a valid car parking permit Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm. Outside of these hours, parking is free. Please visit the parking page for more information on how to apply for a permit and costs involved.
How close is the nearest supermarket?
There is an IGA supermarket on campus in the Agora. Woolworths is located at Polaris Shopping Centre which is a 3-minute drive.
Can I receive mail and packages whilst staying at the property?
Yes, you can. In Bundoora, mail can be collected from the reception office and parcels can be collected from Australia Post in Agora. In Bendigo, mail and parcels can be collected from the Living at La Trobe reception.
