Bendigo celebration for internationals
A three day multicultural festival is being held at the La Trobe campus in Bendigo to welcome international students arriving this week
Thirty-eight new international students will be welcomed to La Trobe University, Bendigo campus on Wednesday, 18 February 2009.
The students are from Botswana, Italy, Hong Kong, India, Denmark, the
USA, Canada, China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Norway, the UK,
Finland, Singapore, Vietnam and South Africa.
During the three-day welcome festival, students will learn about the campus and its facilities. Information on a range of support programs such as Advantage and UniMates will also be outlined.
The welcome festival helps to familiarise students with the campus and
provides an opportunity for them to meet fellow students and teaching
staff.
Acting executive director of the campus, Dr Andrew Harvey, said the event is an important introduction to university life.
‘This is an exciting time for our international students and we aim to extend them a very warm Bendigo welcome,’ said Dr Harvey.
‘For many of them, this is their first time in a country that varies significantly from their home town in landscape, climate and cultural mores. We want to ensure that these students are well aware of the support networks that we provide to help them settle into university life,’ Dr Harvey said.
