La Trobe University students and staff
La Trobe University students and staff are already members of the Library. Your current La Trobe University ID card is your library card and is used for borrowing. You can access online databases or resources using your LTU username and password.
La Trobe College Australia students and staff
All La Trobe College Australia students and academic staff will receive an email from the Library with membership details. Your La Trobe College Australia ID card is your Library card and is used for borrowing.
Borrowing
Students can borrow up to 30 items at a time for a period of 28 days with up to two renewals.
Academic staff can borrow unlimited items for a period of 90 days with up to two renewals.
You can also use the following items in the Library but cannot borrow them:
- journals (including magazines and newspapers)
- reference items.
Access to online resources
Many online resources can only be accessed using your La Trobe College LTM username and password on a Library computer. Some resources are restricted to current La Trobe University staff and students only.
A selection of databases are available from anywhere using your Library password. You can also connect to the eduroam wireless network.

Wodonga TAFE students and staff
All staff and students of Wodonga Institute of TAFE can become Library members.
How to become a member
- Complete an online library membership form or print form and present it to the Library Service Desk with your current student or staff ID card.
- Your Wodonga TAFE ID card is also your library membership card. You must have your card with you to borrow.
Borrowing

Access to online resources
You can access the TAFE subscribed eResources (including articles, eBooks, standards and streaming video) from the Wodonga TAFE Library website.
You can access some La Trobe University online resources on the guest computer in the Library. Some resources are restricted to current La Trobe University staff and students only.

Alumni
Library membership is free for all graduates and former staff of La Trobe University (Alumni). Your membership will provide access to selected databases for non-commercial/personal use only.
You can also borrow most items from our campus libraries.
How to become a member
- Complete the Alumni library membership sign-up form.
- You'll receive an email within five business days of registering with your membership details and information about how to get started with your Library membership.
- For information on how to obtain a physical borrower card, please contact us on 9479 2922 or visit your nearest campus library. You'll need current photo ID.
Borrowing
You can borrow up to 10 physical and audio-visual (some restrictions apply) items at a time for a period of 28 days with up to two renewals.
You can also use the following items in the Library but cannot borrow them:
- short term loan (seven day) items

Many online resources can only be accessed on a guest computer at our Melbourne (Bundoora), Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campus libraries. Some resources are restricted to current La Trobe University staff and students only.
A selection of databases are available from anywhere using your Library password.

CAVAL
If you're a student or staff member of an institution listed on the CAVAL participating libraries page, you can become a member of La Trobe University Library. You can then use Library facilities and borrow items from most collections in the Library, including those at other campus libraries.
How to become a member
- Bring your current student/staff ID card from your home institution to the Help Zone/Loans Desk along with proof of your enrolment (e.g. confirmation of enrolment letter).
- We'll issue you with a CAVAL card and will attach a La Trobe University Library barcode.
- You can then use the CAVAL card to borrow items using the self-checkout machines or at the Help Zone/Loans Desk.
Borrowing
As a CAVAL borrower, you can borrow up to 10 items at a time for a period of 28 days with up to two renewals.
You can also use the following items in the Library but cannot borrow them:
- journals (including magazines and newspapers)
- videos and DVDs
- short term loan, reserve or reference items.
Access to online resources
Many online resources can only be accessed on a guest computer at our Melbourne (Bundoora), Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campus libraries. Some resources are restricted to current La Trobe University staff and students only.

ULANZ
If you're a student or staff member of an institution listed on the ULANZ participating universities page, you can become a member of the La Trobe University Library. You can then use Library facilities and borrow items from most collections in the Library, including those at other campus libraries.
How to become a member
- Bring your current student/staff ID card from your home institution to the Help Zone/Loans Desk along with proof of your enrolment (student) or your employment status (staff).
- We'll issue you with a library card and will attach a La Trobe University Library barcode.
- You can then use the card to borrow items using the self-checkout machines or at the Inquiry/Loans Desk.
Borrowing
You can borrow up to 10 items at a time for a period of 28 days with up to two renewals.
You can also use the following items in the Library but cannot borrow them:
- journals (including magazines and newspapers)
- videos and DVDs
- short term loan, reserve or reference items.

VCE/HSC students and teachers
Melbourne, Bendigo & Albury-Wodonga
As a local student/teacher studying/teaching a VCE/HSC subject, you can become a member of the Library. You can then use Library facilities, borrow items from our print collection and from other campus libraries.
How to become a member
- Print the VCE/HSC Membership form.
- If you're a student, have your parents sign the form and get your school to verify it.
- If you're a teacher, get your school to verify the form.
- Take the form to the Library Help Zone/Loans Desk at any La Trobe campus library during face-to-face opening hours.
- If you have one, bring your current school student photo ID card so we can attach a Library barcode to it. Your membership expires on 30 November each year.
Borrowing
You can borrow up to 10 print items for a period of 28 days with up to two renewals. You can also use the following items in the Library but cannot borrow them:
- journals (including magazines and newspapers)
- videos and DVDs
- three hour, three day, seven day and reference items.
Access to online resources
Many online resources can only be accessed on a guest computer at our Melbourne (Bundoora), Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campus libraries. Some resources are restricted to current La Trobe University staff and students only.

Mildura
As a local student/teacher studying/teaching a VCE/HSC subject, you can become a member of the joint use TAFE/La Trobe Library. This will enable you to borrow items from the print collection and use Library facilities. This service is free to you.
How to become a member
- Print the VCE Mildura Membership form.
- If you're a student, have your parents sign the form and get your school to verify it.
- If you are a teacher, have the form verified by your school.
- Take the form to the Circulation Desk at The Sunraysia Institute of TAFE library during face-to-face opening hours.
- A barcode will be attached to your school ID card. Your membership expires on 30 November each year.
Borrowing
You can borrow up to 10 print items for a period of 21 days with 1 renewal. You may borrow back issues of journals for 7 days, and DVD/videos for 7 days (no renewals)
You can use the following items in the library but cannot borrow them:
- Latest issues of journals (including magazines and newspapers)
- 3 hour, 3 day, 7 day and reference items.
Shepparton
As a local student/teacher studying/teaching a VCE subject, you can become a member of the library. This will enable you to borrow items from the print collection, and use the library facilities.
How to become a member
- Print the VCE Shepparton Membership form.
- If you are a student, have the form signed by your parents and by your school Principal.
- If you're a teacher, get the form signed by your school Principal.
- Take the form to the GOTAFE/La Trobe Shepparton campus library during face-to-face opening hours.
- Bring your current school student ID card if you have one. If you don't have an acceptable card you need to purchase a Library card ($10) from the GOTAFE student administration. Your membership expires on 30 November each year.
Borrowing
You can borrow up to three print items for a period of 28 days with one renewal. You can also use the following items in the Library but cannot borrow them:
- videos and DVDs
- short term loan or reserve items.
Early admissions program
The Aspire Early Entry Program is an exciting initiative for domestic undergraduate school leavers for entry into La Trobe.
Community
Community membership is free.
We take pride in helping students, staff and community members build skills and access resources. Please note that while we try our best to assist all users, some requests may not be met as they are beyond what we can provide.
Anyone aged 18 or over can become a community borrower at our Melbourne (Bundoora), Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga and Shepparton campuses. Mildura Library is operated by SuniTAFE and community membership can be arranged through SuniTAFE for a fee.
How to become a member
- Take a form of current photo ID to the Library service desk at your nearest campus library during face-to-face opening hours.
- Complete the physical membership form and we'll issue you with a Library Membership card to use for borrowing.
Borrowing
You can borrow up to 10 physical and audio-visual items (some restrictions apply) at a time for a period of 28 days with up to two renewals.
You can use short term loan (seven day) items in the Library but cannot borrow them.
