Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES)

La Trobe’s Academic Excellence Scholarships are targeted towards high achieving international students from all countries across all of La Trobe’s undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs.  The awards are for newly commencing students only, and are non-renewable lump sums awarded across a maximum period of two semesters (or twelve months). 

The AES Awards are open to international students proposing to undertake undergraduate and coursework full degrees at La Trobe (noting that Higher Degree Research, Exchange, Study Abroad, ELICOS and Foundation Studies and Diploma students are ineligible).

Selection is based primarily on academic excellence, and applicants will need to have scored a minimum of 75% or equivalent in their previous degree/award to be competitive.

In addition to completing a Scholarship Application Form, students must have also submitted an application for admission, and have received an offer from La Trobe prior to the scholarship deadline.

Students with conditional offers may apply.

How to apply: 

Applicants must complete an application form (PDF 76kb) and submit to the relevant LTI regional Admissions staff via intscholarships@latrobe.edu.au by the application deadline noted below.

Semester 1, 2012: 

  • Fri 16th December 2011: all students applying from overseas
  • Fri 27th January 2012: all students applying onshore

Semester 2, 2012:

  • Fri 18th May 2012: all students applying from overseas
  • Fri 29th June 2012: all students applying onshore

Other Information:

Continuation of the scholarship into a second semester (where relevant) is subject to satisfactory progress and continued enrolment in the program of study for which the scholarship was awarded. Maintaining a C grade average is required, and satisfactory progress will be monitored.

Scholarships for South East Asia (AU$3000)

La Trobe University invites outstanding students to apply for undergraduate scholarships. These scholarships are awarded as one-off payments and are distributed to students until the quota has been filled.

Indonesia

Students must achieve an average of 8 minimum in their Year 12 qualification.

Malaysia

Students must achieve the minimum of the below scores in order to qualify for this scholarship:

  • A Level: Total of 11 points of the best 3 A-level subjects excluding language
  • STPM: Total of 10 SGP scores of the best three academic subjects
  • Foundation: 80 per cent average
  • Diploma: GPA 3.0/4.0

Singapore

Students must achieve the minimum of the below scores in order to qualify for this scholarship:

  • A Level: Total of 11 points of the best 3 A-level subjects excluding language
  • Diploma: GPA 3.0/4.0

Thailand

Students must meet the entry requirements for the Bachelor degree program and submit a written personal statement (maximum 500 words).

Vietnam

Students must meet the entry requirements for the Bachelor degree program and submit a written personal statement (maximum 500 words).

Undergraduate regional and Africa scholarships

Regional Student Scholarship (A$5000)

La Trobe University invites international students who completed Year 12 in 2011 at a high school in regional Australia or international students who completed studies at a regional Australian TAFE in 2011, to apply for a scholarship to study an undergraduate degree at one of our regional campuses in Bendigo, Shepparton, Albury-Wodonga or Mildura. These scholarships are awarded as one-off payments and are distributed to students until the quota has been filled.

Africa Region Scholarship (A$2500)

La Trobe University invites international students from Africa to apply for undergraduate scholarships toward undergraduate studies at any of our campuses. These scholarships are awarded as one-off payments and are distributed to students until the quota has been filled.

To apply, students need to meet all the entry requirements and hold an unconditional offer and start an undergraduate degree at La Trobe University in Victoria, Australia in 2012. Civil Engineering scholarship

This scholarship is available to outstanding international high school graduates (70 per cent or above in year 12 or equivalent). The purpose of this scholarship is to attract students to study a Bachelor of Civil Engineering at La Trobe’s regional campus in Bendigo. It offers the opportunity for students to work in a region that currently faces a skill shortage of civil engineers. The scholarship, worth $20 000 over four years (or $5 000 per year, subject to satisfactory progress) will be offered to all students who meet the entry requirements and accept an offer to study the Bachelor of Civil Engineering at the Bendigo campus starting in Semester 1 (March) 2012. Students applying for this scholarship must meet the following English language requirements:
  • IELTS – a minimum overall band score of 6.0 with no individual band less than 6.0, or
  • TOEFL – a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the test of written English, or
  • TOEFL – a minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing.
