Course description
This is a postgraduate course for intending teachers who wish to specialise in the Middle Years (Years 5 to 10).
It provides practical and intellectually rigorous teacher education. Graduates are qualified to teach in primary and secondary schools but will be specialists in the middle years, and eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
Course structure
The course comprises eight core subjects and two electives, as well as 480 hours of work placement.

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.
English language requirements
Students whose degree is from a university in a non-English speaking country will require an IELTS score of 7.0, with no individual band score less than 7.0, and may be interviewed to assess suitability for classroom context.
Academic entry requirements
Applicants will require a three-year discipline-based degree from an Australian university or an approved international equivalent.
Special requirements
Applicants must provide an original Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children cehck card. The Criminal Record Check must not be more than 12 months old, and from any jurisdiction in which the applicant has resided for 12 months or more (after the age of 18 years) in the past 10 years. For courses that require a Working With Children check card from Australian authorities, students must obtain the check card before commencing the course. The Working With Children application is available through Australia Post Offices.

The following types of industry experience are available in this course.
- Workplace experience for academic credit
If the industry experience program is not a registered part of their course a student will need to hold work rights on their visa, this permits the student to work up to 20 hours per week when their course is in session and unlimited hours outside these times. However, if a student has completed their course and their student visa is expiring they will need to apply for another visa with work rights rather than renewing their student visa based on undertaking industry experience.
