Course description
This course aims to prepare nurses for advanced practice as specialist renal nurses. Graduates have the knowledge, skill and confidence to provide quality nursing care for in-patient and community-based clients from diverse backgrounds who require dialysis, transplantation and other interventions for acute and chronic renal failure and associated conditions. NOTE: The course will only be conducted if sufficient enrolments are achieved.

Course structure
Exit options are available at two levels: Graduate Certificate (three core subjects) and Postgraduate Diploma (one core subject and two electives). The former enables students to specialise in renal care nursing; the Postgraduate Diploma offers the option to specialise in a secondary area of interest. Applicants undertaking the Master of Nursing (Renal Care) must complete 120 credit points (out of 180) at level 5; that comprise of either a group of subjects as a major stream of study, a clinical project or minor thesis.

Prerequisites
Registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse and a current practising certificate with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) or equivalent.

Applicants must be employed by either Austin Health, Western Health, Eastern Health or the Alfred Hospital. Face-to-face teaching occurs at Austin Health.
