Course description

This course gives students the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of perioperative nursing through systematic analysis and reflection on the relationships between theory and practice. NOTE: The course will only be conducted if sufficient enrolments are achieved.

Course structure

All students enrol initially for the Masters course. Exit options are available at two levels: Graduate Certificate (three core subjects) and Postgraduate Diploma (one core subject and two electives). The former enables students to specialise in perioperative care nursing; the Postgraduate Diploma offers the option to specialise in a secondary area of interest. Applicants undertaking the Master of Nursing (Perioperative Care) must complete 120 credit points (out of 180) at level 5; that comprise of either a group of subjects as a major stream of study, a clinical project or minor thesis.

Prerequisites

Registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse and current practising certificate with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) or equivalent.

Additional information

Applicants must be employed by a hospital participating in the program. Face-to-face teaching is conducted at the Alfred Hospital.
