Course description

This course offers qualified nurses opportunities to gain experience in areas such as anaesthesia, recovery room, post-anaesthesia care, surgical specialities and supplies, day procedures, pain management and perioperative nursing. NOTE: The course will only be conducted if sufficient enrolments are achieved.

Course structure

All students enrol in the Master's course. Exit options are available at two levels: Graduate Certificate (three core subjects) and Postgraduate Diploma (one core subject and two electives). The former enables students to specialise in perianaesthetic care nursing; the Postgraduate Diploma offers the option to specialise in a secondary area of interest. Applicants undertaking the Master of Nursing (Perianaesthetic Care) must complete 120 credit points (out of 180) at level 5; that comprise of either a group of subjects as a major stream of study, a clinical project or minor thesis.

There may be additional costs associated with police checks and/or possible immunisations, ranging from A$15-500.

Prerequisites

Registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse and current practising certificate with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) or equivalent. Applicants must also be employed by a hospital participating in the program.
