Course description
This course provides students with the in-depth knowledge and skills required to practise in contemporary critical care nursing, offering a strong evidence base supported by appropriate clinical skill development, and facilitating essential life-long learning skills. Specialty subjects enable students to undertake focused and advanced clinical studies. Students studying via distance education must have access to video conferencing to complete the course. Students are also expected to undertake supervised and assessed clinical practice.
Course structure
Exit options are available at two levels: Graduate Certificate (three core subjects) and Postgraduate Diploma (one core subject and two electives). The former enables students to specialise in critical care nursing; the Postgraduate Diploma offers the option to specialise in a secondary area of interest. Applicants undertaking the Master of Nursing (Critical Care) must complete 120 credit points (out of 180) at level 5, comprising either a group of subjects as a major stream of study, a clinical project or minor thesis.

Prerequisites
Registration as a Division 1 Nurse and current practising certificate with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) or equivalent.
All applicants must have significant access to, or be employed in, an appropriate clinical environment throughout the course.
