Course description

This course aims to meet the needsd of people involved in education and interested in pursuing a role in leadership or management and evaluation of educational institutions and systems, including schools, universities, TAFEs, health and nursing education, and other industries providing professional education. The program addresses key areas of educational leadership and management, and provides extensive choices in electives from the Faculty of Education and MBA listings of the Faculty of Law and Management.

For people involved or interested in leadership positions in teaching at any level, this is a teacher development course. It may either add a specialist qualification for teachers who are already registered or lead to further study opportunities in the broad field of education and leadership.

Course structure

Students can choose either coursework or a combination of coursework and a minor thesis. The first year may be satisfied by completion of an approved Graduate Diploma or fourth year of tertiary study. The final year comprises 120 credit points, which can be completed by coursework or a combination of 60 credit points of coursework and a minor thesis. At least one research methodology subject is core for all Masters programs.

Prerequisites

Candidates with a three-year Bachelor degree are eligible for entry to a two-year program (240 credit points). Candidates with a Graduate Bachelor of Education, Honours degree or relevant specialist Graduate Diploma from a recognised university or institution are eligible for entry to a one-year program (120 credit points).

Roles for graduates may include leading teacher, educational management consultant, policy and planning officer, education officer, school principal or vice-principal, and lecturer/tutor.
