Course description

This flexible course is for graduates seeking either to expand their general archaeological knowledge or pursue a career in archaeology in public-sector heritage service departments or private consulting.

Course structure

Students complete three fifth-year subjects (20 credit points each) from a designated list, and a 15 000-word research thesis (60 credit points).

Contact hours

The coursework component requires approximately 9 contact hours per week if studying full-time. The thesis component requires regular meetings with a supervisor for thesis consultation.

Career opportunities

The course allows graduates to prepare for a career in archaeology (particularly in heritage management) in Australia and internationally. It also provides an opportunity for graduates to gain skills in Australian archaeology (both historic and prehistoric), and in other highly specialised fields such as the archaeology of ancient China, ancient Mesoamerica, and the Palaeolithic of Africa and Asia. Job opportunities in archaeological heritage management are excellent, with highly attractive remuneration packages.
