Course description

This program focuses on the concepts, technology and processes behind the support and management of web-based systems. It offers professional development for IT professionals who want to update their skills or specialise in web technology.

Course structure

Students complete eight subjects, including three core subjects in web development, web engineering and web services. They can choose remaining subjects from a range of electives in computer networks, data communication, databases, mathematics, network security and object-oriented application development.

Prerequisites

Bachelor degree in IT or approved equivalent, or a recognised professional or trade qualification, and five years' industry experience.

Additional information

To take more electives than needed for the Graduate Certificate but fewer than for the Graduate Diploma, you can enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Web Technology and apply to graduate with the Graduate Certificate when ready. The remaining subjects may be used for credit to some other course if appropriate.

Career opportunities

Demand for graduates is expected to be from providers of internet services, and from organisations using web browser interfaces.

The course is accredited by the Australian Computer Society.
