Course description
This course gives graduate physiotherapists an opportunity to develop advanced theoretical and applied skills in sports physiotherapy, skills in critical evaluation of relevant literature, and research design. It also aims to allow physiotherapists to undertake further training in their own time with minimum disruption to their work.

Course structure
Content comprises three prescribed subjects: Professional Development in Sports Physiotherapy, Physiology, and Literature Searching and Evaluation. The first subject requires the completion of 104 hours' accredited continuing education courses run by external providers such as the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) or Sports Medicine Australia; mandatory courses include APA Spinal 1 courses (if presented in your state) as well as the APA Level 1 and 2 sports courses. The remaining two subjects are taken online. The course is structured to allow physiotherapists to undertake further education in their own time with minimum disruption to their work.

Prerequisites
Bachelor of Physiotherapy, registration to practise in Australia and a minimum of two years' physiotherapy experience.

Additional information
This course forms 50 per cent of the requirements of the Master of Sports Physiotherapy Degree.
Credit for courses by other organisations is considered on submission of relevant hours, content, learning goals and completion of specified assessment tasks.
Online orientation and lectures commence early February.
Career opportunities
Physiotherapists are employed in a wide variety of settings, including private practice, general hospitals, rehabilitation centres, community health centres, industrial clinics and specialist centres. Physiotherapists assist both male and female patients with a wide variety of disorders and across the life span. Opportunities also exist in physiotherapy education and in research.
