Course description

This course enables qualified teachers to gain an additional qualification as Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Course structure

The course comprises 60 credit points, and covers aspects of English phonology, syntax, discourse and language use as well as TESOL teaching methodology. It includes a 22-day supervised TESOL teaching practice requirement.

Contact hours

Approximately three hours per week in each of semesters one and two plus 22 days of supervised teaching practice.

Prerequisites

Recognised teaching qualification of at least three years' duration. Other applicants may be eligible for Special Entry; in such cases, the course may provide a recognised TESOL qualification, but will not meet requirements for registration as a teacher in government schools in Australia.

Career opportunities

Graduates may work as ESL teachers in schools or TAFE settings.

Professional recognition
