Course description
This course aims to provide students with strong academic and practical skills, as well as the attitudes required to comprehend, critically analyse and
evaluate new knowledge in nursing.

Course structure
Students complete six compulsory subjects, covering acute care, mental health nursing, management of chronic conditions, clinical assessment, and mental health nursing.

Scholarships

Students should allow approximately A$300 for a uniform and equipment. Students can purchase these items from any supplier; they remain students' personal property. In addition, students must obtain a National Police Check- A$15, immunisations - A$250-470, and a First Aid II Certificate - A$160. All prices are approximate. Clinical placements may incur accommodation and travel costs, and these will vary depending on the venue. Costs are subject to change. Students must provide information of immunisation status prior to commencing clinical placements, and complete a First Aid Level II Certificate course which is not conducted by La Trobe University.

Academic merit (current for 2011).
Extra requirements
All applicants must be licensed and registered to practise as registered general nurses, based on a minimum three-year nursing qualification. Applicants must include a copy of their current registration certificate with their application form.

Registration as a general nurse.

Graduates should be equipped with the knowledge and skills to further their career development, and are prepared for postgraduate study. It should be noted that this course does not lead to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) (or equivalent).
