Course description
This course qualifies graduates to register as dental practitioners. The Bachelor is a three-year pre-registration degree that prepares students for entry into the two-year Master's program.
Prospective students are advised to read the Guidelines on Infection Control which have been developed and are endorsed by the Dental Board of Australia.
Course structure
The first two years of the Bachelor program focus on biosciences, public health, general medicine, materials science, growth and development and preclinical dental procedures. Third year covers more advanced preclinical procedures, and students are introduced the clinical environment as well as continuing studies in research methods, oral pathology and pharmacology.
The Master of Dentistry provides places in clinical facilities around regional Victoria with an integrated approach of didactic and clinical teaching.

Students are encouraged to complete a First Aid Level II course, which is not conducted by La Trobe University, variable cost approximately A$160 (is recommended students complete a Level II/Senior First Aid Certificate but it is not a course requirement), and a Police Check A$15.50, and immunisations, as these are prerequisites for some professional placements. Other approximate costs include: A$5000 for first-year instruments, A$1952.50 for first year books, A$52 for clinical shirt (purchased from official La Trobe supplier), A$70 for gown, A$10 for name badge. Non-Year 12 selection may be based on ATAR, Pi form, GPA, UMAT.
Extra requirements
Non-Year 12 applicants must have completed the UMAT.
Non-Year 12 applicants must complete and submit a VTAC Pi form detailing prior educational experience and reasons for interest in the course.
Applicants may be required to attend an interview.
Prerequisites
VCE Units 3 & 4: study scores of at least 35 in any English and at least 25 in Biology and Chemistry.

Please note students may be required to relocate to various clinical facilities around Victoria as part of their clinical placement.
