Course description
This course is designed to meet an industry demand for a combination of technical skills in computer science and financial and business skills, which allows highly flexible career choices. It includes opportunities for industry-based project work, advanced studies in accounting, and a choice of streams in computer science, such as software engineering, data engineering, artificial intelligence or network engineering.
Course structure
First-year studies include computer science, mathematics, object-oriented programming in Java and C++, and accounting and management. Later-year studies cover databases, computer systems architecture and design, algorithms and data structures, economics, business law, and financial accounting.
Students can specialise in artificial intelligence, data engineering, computer networks or software engineering. In third year students can undertake an industry-based software engineering project. Students can also take subjects from other disciplines such as arts, business, and science.

Middle Band
Successful completion of Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics facilitates an additional 1.5 aggregate points.
Selection
ATAR n/a (2011)
Guaranteed Entry (Year 12 applicants only): applicants with an ATAR of 80 or above receive a first-round offer; those with lower ATARs are considered through normal selection processes.
Non-Year 12 selection may involve: ENTER/ATAR, Pi form, GPA, STAT Multiple Choice.
Extra requirements
Non-Year 12 applicants must complete and submit a VTAC Pi form if they wish other information to be considered during the selection process. This may include information such as work experience or reasons for applying. Applicants may wish to provide other documentation in support of their application. They may also be asked to complete a maths test.
Prerequisites
VCE Units 3 & 4: study score of at least 25 in English (ESL) or 20 in any other English, and 25 in Mathematical Methods (either) or 20 in Specialist Mathematics.

Career opportunities
Graduates are usually employed in commercial systems development, information systems management, financial analysis, and general management in science and technology-related fields.
They may also work at applying modern IT techniques in the commercial sector, including banking and finance. Other opportunities may include science or accounting consultancy work, teaching, and professional practice.
Professional recognition
The Bachelor of Computer Science is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), and graduates are eligible for professional membership.
The Bachelor of Accounting is accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). Graduates are eligible for membership with either professional accounting body or other professional groups such as National Institute of Accountants (NIA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
