Course description

This course aims to give students the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in a wide range of areas within the private and public sectors. It adopts a problem-focused approach that helps students develop important problem-solving and decision-making skills relevant to any business.

The flexible program includes an exit point at Diploma level (see Diploma in Business). Depending on campus, majors include business economics, financial planning, financial management, human resource (HR) management, international business, international management, macroeconomics, management, management information systems, marketing, and sustainable resource management.

Course structure

Students complete ten foundation subjects covering fundamental skills and knowledge in accounting, macroeconomics, microeconomics, management, information systems, commercial law, sustainability in global business or climate, sustainability and society, business statistics, finance and marketing.

They also complete at least one major or two minors in business, and further subjects in additional majors, minors or elective areas. Outside majors may include a language or other pre-approved sequences. Students have access to four international study tours - marketing, international business, human resource management and international accounting.

Middle Band

Completion of Business Management, Accounting or Economics facilitates an additional aggregate point per study, to a maximum of 2 points. Performance in prerequisite studies and Business Studies (any) is also considered, as are criteria for the Rural and Regional Access Scheme (RRSAS) and Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).

Extra requirements

Non-Year 12 applicants must complete and submit a VTAC Pi form if they wish other information to be considered during the selection process. This may include information such as work experience or reasons for applying. Applicants may wish to provide other documentation in support of their application.

Prerequisites

VCE Units 3 & 4: study score of at least 25 in English (ESL) or 20 in any other English.

NSW HSC: satisfy Year 12 English requirements.

Career opportunities

Graduates are well prepared for careers in the management of large, medium and small businesses, with career opportunities in the government and private sectors, both domestic and international. Areas include corporate and organisational management, small business management, marketing, management, human resource management and international business.

Professional recognition

Human Resource Management graduates can seek admission to the Australian Human Resource Institute (subject to relevant work experience). Marketing graduates are eligible to join the Australian Marketing Institute or the Australian Market and Social Research Society as associate members.
