Course description

This program enables qualified teachers to gain an additional qualification as Teachers of Languages Other Than English (LOTE).

Course structure

Content comprises LOTE Teaching Methodology (40 credit points) and 22 days' supervised LOTE teaching practice in schools (20 credit points).

Download and complete a postgraduate coursework application form, and send it directly to the relevant campus.

Please ensure you also provide all supplementary information required.

Apply direct to the University by 14 February for Semester 1 and 11 July for Semester 2.

Indicative fee (2011): $6305 (60 credit points)
The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.

Prerequisites

Recognised teaching qualification of at least three years' duration with either three years' university study in LOTE, graduating at advanced level, or native-speaker background. Applicants with native-speaker background must undertake a test of language equivalence at a recognised Victorian university.

Career opportunities

Graduates may teach languages other than English in schools, community organisations or adult education facilities.

Professional recognition

The course is recognised by the Victorian Institute of Teaching as a qualification in LOTE for registered teachers.
