Course description
This course offers traditional training to computer professionals who design, manage, maintain and enhance large computer software systems, especially knowledge-based systems.
Course structure
Students will undertake 13 subjects and a thesis to complete this course.
Specialised subjects include Intelligent Computing Systems, Co-Operating Computer Systems, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Games Programming, Databases, Network Engineering, Software Engineering and Software Systems, and Web Development. Studnets should note they make out the award for the Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science after completing the first year of the Master's course only if they decide not to proceed to the second year of the Master's course.

IELTS (Academic) - minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Computer-Based Test - A minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test - A minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or more in the test of Written English; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test - A minimum score of 88 with no individual score less than 22; or
Completion of the English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at PG (postgraduate) level available from La Trobe Melbourne; or
Approved equivalent.
Academic entry requirements
A three-year Australian Bachelor's degree in computer science or a four-year engineering degree with substantial computer science content (equivalent to third-year computer science), or an approved international equivalent. Applicants with a four-year computer science (Honours) or computer systems engineering degree are eligible for direct entry into second year.
Students who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science or an Honours degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent, may be given Advanced Standing (credit) for some subjects and complete the course in a shorter time.

Additional information
Stduents can specialise in computer networks and software engineering streams by choosing appropriate subjects.

Graduates can take up advanced technology and managerial positions in systems development and analysis, database development, software engineering, information systems management, and computer networks management. High-achieving graduates also have the opportunity to proceed to PhD studies.
