Course description

This program offers applicants with limited experience in outdoor or environmental education the opportunity to choose subjects according to their needs. Applicants with an outdoor or environmental education degree can extend their expertise into a new area, or add depth of knowledge in a specialist area.

A wide range of subjects is available, including Outdoor Education Experience, Outdoor Education Concepts, Bush Environments, River Environments, Winter Alpine Environments, Rock Environments, and Education and Sustainability. The course includes both the theoretical depth and integrated practical work for which the La Trobe's outdoor education program is internationally-renowned.



Course structure

The course comprises 120 credit points, spread over four core subjects and four outdoor and/or environmental education electives.

Selection

IELTS (Academic) - minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or

TOEFL Computer-Based Test - A minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or

TOEFL Paper-based Test - A minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or more in the test of Written English; or

TOEFL Internet-based Test - A minimum score of 88 with no individual score less than 22; or

Approved equivalent.

Academic entry requirements

An Australian Bachelor's degree or approved international equivalent. All applicants, including those with no experience in outdoor activities (e.g. lightweight camping), must have a reasonable level of fitness to be able to undertake overnight bushwalks and canoe trips in remote areas.

Extra requirements

Applicants must provide an original National Police Check (not more than a year old) from any jurisdiction in which the applicant has resided for 12 months or more in the past 10 years (after the age of 18 years). Students must also apply for a Working with Children (WWC) Check upon course commencement. WWC applications are available through Australia Post offices.

Applicants will be advised of the exact start date however, this course commences mid-February each year, prior to the University Semester 1 (February) commencement date.
