Course description

Doctoral candidature is available in most of the Faculty's disciplines and areas of study. The Faculty supports several clusters of research expertise, in archaeology, communication and media studies, historical studies, linguistics, literary studies, philosophy, political science and sociology.

A PhD thesis should normally not exceed 75 000 words; it must not exceed 100 000 words.

Selection

IELTS (Academic) - minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or

TOEFL Computer-Based Test - A minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or

TOEFL Paper-based Test - A minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or more in the test of Written English; or

TOEFL Internet-based Test - A minimum score of 88 with no individual score less than 22; or

Completion of the English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at PG (postgraduate) level available from the La Trobe University Language Centre; or

Approved equivalent.

Academic entry requirements

Applicants must have completed an Australian Master's degree or Bachelors degree with Honours at H1 or H2A level, or approved international equivalent.
