Course description
This course combines an in-depth study of information technology (IT) with a business specialisation in economics, international business, business law, human resource management, or marketing. With a strong foundation in both business and IT La Trobe graduates will have endless career opportunities, and the specialist skills they need within their area of interest.
A limited number of industry-based learning scholarships are available in the later years of the degree.
Course structure
First-year studies include economics, business law, accounting, information systems, IT fundamentals, and object-oriented programming. Second- and third-year studies include computer networks, mathematics, corporate management, databases, finance, auditing and taxation, and statistics. Fourth year offers highly flexible choices in IT and business subjects, or subjects from another discipline.
After the first two years, students can gain a year of professional experience through a paid industry-based learning placement.

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or
Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or
Approved equivalent.

Graduates can combine expertise in information technology with their chosen area of business, and take advantage of this combination of skills in a rapidly changing employment market. Information technology skills enhance careers in the business fields, and graduates can be employed in new business development and analysis roles, as well as in the more familiar roles in IT and business.
Professional recognition
Graduates with a marketing major are eligible to join the Australian Marketing Institute or the Australian Market and Social Research Society as associate members.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Information Technology are eligible for professional level accreditation with the Australian Computing Society.
