Course description
Australia's first Work Ready Bachelor of Arts commences in 2012, with additional subjects in career skills and opportunities for voluntary work experience to give La Trobe Arts graduates an additional career edge.
All students enrolling in the Bachelor of Arts will be able to choose to undertake new subjects that specifically train them for transition to the workforce. Students will also be able to choose to undertake meaningful volunteering placements and participate in international student exchange programs that have relevance to their studies - and are counted as part of their Work Ready experience.
These new subjects and opportunities add to a dazzling array of subjects that students can choose to specialise in - making La Trobe's Arts degree one of the most flexible and diverse in Australia. Students choose to major in at least one subject area which they will study extensively in each year of their degree, and can also choose a minor specialisation to develop a secondary area of expertise.
The degree also offers the opportunity to complete elective subjects in a huge range of subjects, not only in the humanities and social sciences, but also in other areas such as accounting, computer science, economics and psychology (provided prerequisites are satisfied).
Course structure
In first year, students select eight subjects from a range of disciplines, and choose at least one major from the list below. Students must complete one core subject in each major at each year level. Remaining subjects can be made up of minors and electives.
Work Ready BA students choose the work ready stream when enrolling in their degree. Students must complete a total of 360 credit points and a minimum of 180 work ready status points throughout their course.
Students who have already completed a Bachelor of Arts are not eligible to enrol in a Work Ready Bachelor of Arts. Students must undertake careers workshops in conjunction with the minimum requisite course load.
Please note: Students undertaking a major in psychology (available at Melbourne, Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campuses) are not eligible to apply for Honours studies in psychology; eligibility is restricted to students enrolled in La Trobe's Bachelor of Psychological Science and related double degrees.
Contact hours
Approximately 12 contact hours per week if studying full-time. Please note that students studying a language may have up to 15 hours contact time, to cover practical components.
