Course description

This course is designed for people working in educational contexts who wish to extend their understanding of bilingual and bicultural practices in the education of the Deaf. Students also have an opportunity to develop their knowledge of AUSLAN.

Course structure

Studnets complete a total of six subjects. Students enrol in one of three streams: Language, Teaching or LOTE, and omplete six subjects, including two core subjects. Subjects include Literacy and Numeracy Development For Deaf And Hearing Impaired Students, and Curriculum Issues in the Development of Bilingual, Bicultural Teaching Programs.

Selection

IELTS (Academic) - minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or

TOEFL Computer-Based Test - A minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or

TOEFL Paper-based Test - A minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or more in the test of Written English; or

TOEFL Internet-based Test - A minimum score of 88 with no individual score less than 22; or

Completion of the English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at PG (postgraduate) level available from the La Trobe Melbourne; or

Approved equivalent.

Academic entry requirements

Applicants must have a recognised teaching qualification. Applicants who can demonstrate practical experience in the field of deaf education may be considered for special entry.
